The Famous Pavones Wave

At the mouth of the Golfo Dulce, Pavones is famous among surfers worldwide for its long left-hand point break. On a good south swell, rides can last an exceptionally long time, linking several sections along the point.

The wave works best with south swells, usually from April to October. The bottom is made of rocks and cobblestones, so the main point is best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers; on smaller days the inside sections are friendlier for those still learning.

Beach and Village Life

Pavones is a small, relaxed community where life follows the rhythm of the tides. Around the soccer field facing the point you will find small restaurants (sodas), surf shops and yoga classes, and in the evenings everyone gathers to watch the sunset over the gulf.

The shoreline is mostly rocky, with tide pools to explore at low tide. Water shoes are recommended, and on calm days, especially in the dry season, the water is pleasant for a swim.
